Would Olabisi Silva still be alive if she did not choose to live and die for Nigeria?

Would Olabisi Silva still be alive if she did not choose to live and die for Nigeria?

I asked the same question when my friend, Moyo Ogundipe, died of a cardiac arrest two years ago.

Nigeria lacks basic healthcare facilities for talented, boundary-pushing professionals.

The roads are deathtraps.

The primary schools have the roofs peeling off the walls.

At night, the evangelical churches bring stress to your life, and you cannot find a good rest as they blast their constant cacophonies into your head.

During the day, the police, the custom patrols, the Road Safety officers, and car inspection corps block the roads and harass drivers and other road users trying to make a decent living.

Everywhere I go, they say, “Prof, give us something for pure water,” even the gatemen at the local university where I am doing research.

The stress is killing me. It has killed too many talented people, and the latest victim is Olabisi Silva.

It is unkind that the ruling class is so desensitized to the feelings of the people of Nigeria.

Why do they just want all of us to die spiritually, mentally and physically, just because they want to eat themselves into a fat coma?

Are their protruding stomachs not yet large and distended enough?

When will this great and blessed country called Nigeria be free to begin to live in the 21st century?
