How easy it is to degenerate into a beast when you enter the jungle!
How easy it is to degenerate into a beast when you enter the jungle!
Yesterday I vowed to myself:
1. I will always calm down.
2. Though the okada bike riders are driving me crazy, and all the drivers are treating me like the road belongs to them only, I will refrain from calling anybody names like, “Were (lunatic), olori buruku ( crazy heads); eranko (beasts), etc.”
3. When behind the wheel, I will swear at nobody, though it seems the most instinctive thing to do, because they swear at me while I drive with utmost consideration for every road user.
4. I will imagine that I am the helpless passengers that the okada riders are carrying around on their death missions, and pay absolute attention to ensure that they do not hit my truck, hard as they try to hit my truck every time they dash around me.
5. I have the power to control every word that comes out of my mouth, and will use only the best and kindest words to address people, even when they go out of their way to be hostile.
So help me God, while I continue to navigate my way through the southern states of Nigeria in these difficult days of dog eat dog.
