How to train an apprentice artist?

Get her to work with you on your own art.

Get her to go through the process that you go through.

Get her to understand that it is a lot of work.

But there is no amount of talking that can convey that fact to her.

Get her to actually do the work t enable her to understand the use of the materials, the training of the fingers, and the love for long hours of staying in the studio.

Here, I work with my apprentice artist, Morenikeji Badmus, showing her how to do it the proper way.

Ijapa took Aja home.

If you went to the University of Ife in the late 70s or early 80s, can you identify anybody in this picture?

A museum is doing a research on the work of Munio Makuchi, and wants info from anyone in this picture, or anyone able to identify someone in the picture.

Sugar and Sugarcane

Those familiar with the Oyo-speaking parts of Yoruba country would notice that these folks refer to sugar as Iyọ̀ọ-Ṣúgà.

If they were strangers, it might confound them, because they would translate Iyọ̀ as salt, and wouldn’t understand why it is coupled with Ṣúgà, that is sugar.

Through careful calculations using the Ifa computer system, we produced a clear forecast of the results of the presidential elections.

It was a long and tedious process that included calculating the situation state by state, before doing an overall analysis.

Oyinbo drove us home from the burial ceremony.

Rufus and Felicia sat in the middle row of the bus. I sat all by myself at the back row. Nobody said a word as Steve drove slowly and solemnly through the city, negotiating the traffic with the dexterity of a spider moving through its tightly woven web.

When he was new, Steve found it difficult to drive through the city, because in Britain, they drive on the left side of the road, but in Nigeria people drive on the right side. Also, Steve found the drivers on the roads of Benin City extremely rough for his temperament.
