Homesick.

I will close my eyes and transport myself back home, among my friends, drinking palm wine laced with stout, or whatever. Khaki. Or whatsoever friends gift our ancestors.

Àjò ò dùn bí ilé.

It is Thanksgiving week in the United States when people are giving thanks to their ancestors.

But my ancestors are in Nigeria, not America.

I don’t care for the turkey dinner they have for their Thanksgiving here. I prefer akara and palm wine to give thanks to our ancestors.

To my ancestors, I pour libations of palm wine. And I give thanks that all is very well.
